Things I've always wanted to do (and will one day...)
I really don't know whether I'll be able to get to do any of these, but these are the things I can imagine setting myself up in a little cottage business when I get older:
Pottery
I love those big chunky earthenware mugs which keep your coffee nice and hot. I also love nice bright designs too.
Maybe I could somehow combine the two and come up with a signature style. I'd love to have my own pottery shed set up with everything I need to do pottery.
Stained Glass
I adore stained glass. I love the simplicity - art that's totally stripped back to tell a story with colour, light and shape. It's pretty, it has historical links, it feels like it has a right to be around forever to tell it's story. It's almost sacrilegious to break stained glass. I'd love to learn how to make it, maybe turn that into a cottage business too.
Flying a plane or helicopter
I've wanted to do this since I was a kid. It looks very technical though so I'm not sure if my brain could handle it - I'd hate to be up in the air and end up out in the ocean and running out of fuel because my brain can't grasp the technical stuff.
Self-sufficient veggie garden
I picture myself going to pick a few fresh veggies for dinner after a day of flying, pot and stain glass making.
My garden will be pretty as well as functional. I don't know how long it'd last though. I had a vegie garden for a while in my back yard and was turned off by having to look through every bit of the broccoli after accidently serving up some grubs one night with the dinner. But in my ideal, hippy-ish dotage, my garden will be grub free, somehow. Maybe it'll be covered in bug spray, but then I'll be letting the greenies down.
I'll come back and add to these later - I have a thumping great head ache and am not thinking clearly, but I'm sure there's more I'd like to try before I get too old (did I mention sky diving?!)

Random waffling from someone who really needs a life...
A friend of mine does
A friend of mine does stained glass, it would totally work as a cottage business. You could also get your garden behind the cottage business, combine the two. And I don't do gardens because of all the bugs, burk! But I enjoy the fresh veggies at my mom's after she's got rid of the "nasties"
It looks pretty pricey to
It looks pretty pricey to start up - each coloured 30cm square glass sheet costs $13 and up, and I'd think there's a lot of waste - plus the cost of all the tools. I think I'll go do a course and see if I like it first because I reckon it'd be an outlay of at least $500 to set up properly to do this, and if I don't like it or if I'm crap at it, then it'd be a bit of a waste.
